Education (Amendment) Act 1986 This brief Act amended the 1984 Education (Grants and Awards) Act to double the limit on funding for education support grants to 1 per cent of local authority budgets, and removed payment for lunch duties from the 1965 Remuneration of Teachers Act.

[page 1] An Act to increase the limit in section 2(1) of the Education (Grants and Awards) Act 1984 on expenditure approved for education support grant purposes, and to exclude remuneration for midday supervision from the Remuneration of Teachers Act 1965. [17th February 1986] BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-
1 Increase of limit on expenditure approved for education support grant purposes In section 2(1) of the Education (Grants and Awards) Act 1984 (c. 11) (which provides that the aggregate amount of the expenditure of local education authorities in England and Wales approved for any financial year for education support grant purposes shall not exceed 0.5 per cent. of the amount determined for that year in accordance with section 2 of that Act), for "0.5 per cent." there shall be substituted "1 per cent.". 2 Exclusion of certain remuneration from Remuneration of Teachers Act 1965 In section 8 (interpretation) of the Remuneration of Teachers Act 1965 (c. 3), after subsection (2) there shall be inserted - "(2A) In this Act 'remuneration' does not include remuneration paid to teachers by local education authorities under contracts relating exclusively to the provision of midday supervision of pupils in schools.". [page 2] 3 Short title and extent (1) This Act may be cited as the Education (Amendment) Act 1986. (2) This Act extends to England and Wales only.
